About

I am Professor of Design Research at the Royal College of Art (and Professor Emeritus at Middlesex University).

Originally a textile designer, I research the theory and practice of visualisation, both historically and through developing new practice using digital methods.

I investigate the history of Design Research, particularly as pioneered by Professor Bruce Archer at the RCA.

I evaluate research for government agencies internationally. My experience of REF and similar processes includes being a panellist on the UK REF 2014 and on the Hong Kong RAE 2020. I advise several UK universities on their REF submissions in Art and Design and review requests for research funding for bodies internationally.
